In the Bookstore

Bradley McIlwain

men are playing
chess watching
customers float
by as phantoms
haunting space
w/ coffee grinds
contemplating
life after decaf
listening to slow
jazz killing time
w/ literary
autobiography
and diet books
looking at the
world through
a kaleidoscope
lens
talking pop-culture
trash –
and there are two
men playing chess
talking about the
70’s – present day
and how something
had died,
they just couldn’t
put their finger on
what.
